At the Cabinet's weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Cho Jung-tai received a report on the nation's overall economic outlook for 2025 from the National Development Council. The premier said that in recent years, Taiwan has been maintaining steady development while accelerating the transformation of its economy. Despite uncertainties stemming from factors such as geopolitical tensions and trade protectionism, Taiwan's economy grew by 4.3% in 2024. This performance was driven by the global economy's stable growth, easing inflationary pressures, and the continued strong demand for emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI). Additionally, both private sector investment in Taiwan and the nation's tax revenue have increased significantly.
With Taiwan continuing to maintain its growth momentum in private sector investment and in consumption, its economy is projected to grow moderately in 2025, the premier said. He pledged that the government will continue guiding Taiwanese businesses worldwide and leading international corporations to invest in Taiwan, while also actively promoting Taiwan's Five Trusted Industry Sectors (semiconductors, AI, military, security and surveillance, and next-generation communications), a program to develop industries and living spaces across Taiwan's six regions, and other key programs. These efforts will help enhance Taiwan's investment environment, strengthening its economic resilience and industrial competitiveness, and ensuring its leadership in the global supply chain.
