According to the statistics of Investment Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, 292 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total amount of US$365,491,000 were approved in January 2018. This indicates an increase of 47.47% in the number of cases, but a decrease of 0.37% in FDI amount compared with the same period of 2017.
With regard to inward investment from Mainland China, 19 cases were approved with an amount of US$81,942,000 in January 2018. This indicates an increase of 46.15% in the number of cases, and an increase in the FDI amount (157.68%) compared with the same period of 2017. Aggregated from July 2009 to January 2018, 1,106 cases were approved with a total investment amount added up to US$2,038,491,000.
In terms of Taiwan’s outbound investment (except Mainland China), 53 projects were registered in January 2018 with a total amount of US$494,724,000 indicating an increase of 65.63% in the number of cases and an increase of 7.14% in the amount as compared with the same period of 2017.
As for Taiwan’s outward investment to Mainland China, 51 applications have been approved in January 2018, indicating an increase of 34.21% compared with the same period of 2017. The approved investment amount is US$271,239,000, 54.2% less than the same period in 2017.
