It is now 20 years since the Chungkang Export Processing Zone was first opened to developers on December 20, 1997. From its humble beginnings, years of hard work has transformed the area from a desolate region of rolling sands to a well-maintained seaside industrial park with wide roads, verdant greenery, and excellent infrastructure. It has also created riches, attracting 73 companies with over 7,300 employees, investing over NT$100 billion and creating NT$57 billion in value each year.
Director Liang Yu-wen of the Chungkang Branch says that "only the best can satisfy the best." In the future, the Chungkang Branch will continue to respond to the real needs of companies and provide customized, diverse services. It will implement four strategies: deepen services to drive innovation, develop land to facilitate investments, strengthen amenities and infrastructure, and promote a sustainable circular economy. He expects the Chungkang Branch to become a thoughtful team trusted by companies, so that the Chungkang EPZ can be a dynamic manufacturing site, a good place to live, and a sustainable space for the environment.
To be a dynamic manufacturing site, the Chungkang Branch is actively promoting the panel- and PV-related industries, while working to achieve industrial upgrades and the development of an industry cluster. It is also active in "made-to-order" talent development and cross-industry collaboration, providing customized matchmaking services from vocational high schools and graduate schools to the workplace to meet companies' needs for talent and personnel.
To be a good place to live, the EPZ offers food, healthcare, accommodations, and transportation. For food, the EPZ features convenience stores and restaurants. For healthcare, the EPZ has an agreement with Tungs' Taichung Metro Harbor Hospital to provide care for employees. For accommodations, the EPZ provides dormitories for both domestic and foreign workers. For transportation, the EPZ is advocating for city bus routes that will provide 36 trips every day for greater convenience.
To be a sustainable space for the environment, the public and private sectors are working together to improve landscaping and greenery across the EPZ, so that it can become a green park on the seaside. Companies in the EPZ are also receiving strong advice regarding circular economy measures, including waste reduction, processing, and reuse. Companies are also being encouraged to install solar PV systems on rooftops to reduce carbon emissions.
Branch Director Liang also said that, to promote domestic industrial development, the companies of the Chungkang EPZ have become integrated into the supply chain of the Central Taiwan Science Park, Taichung Precision Machinery Technology Park, and other neighboring industrial zones to create a panel and PV industry cluster in central Taiwan. In the future, the Chungkang EPZ will become an important cluster for the "5+2" innovative industries, as well as a top choice for domestic and international high-tech companies looking to invest in Taiwan.
