The Export Processing Zone Administration, MOEA (EPZA) actively attempts to establish a fertile environment for startup companies at the Kaohsiung Software Park, integrating startup spaces within the park, organizing technical exchanges, and connecting research efforts. This June (2018), the EPZA introduced resources from the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration, MOEA to establish the “Southern Taiwan Digital Integration Innovation Coalition”, connecting hardware development efforts from the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology and the software development efforts of the Institute for Information Industry (III) to help further the development of startup businesses. Today (18th), the EPZA further organized the “Kaohsiung Software Park Funds Startup MOU Signing Ceremony and Venture Capital Matchmaking Event”, signing an MOU with venture capital firms across Taiwan like Gains Investment Corp, the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs, and Wanin International, and setting up fund matchmaking channels for startup businesses within the park.
EPZA Director Huang Wen-Gu stated that the signing of letters of intent for cooperation with renowned venture capital firms in Taiwan at this event is incredibly significant for the rapid development of startup teams in the Kaohsiung Software Park, because there are two key factors to the success of a startup team, the first one being marketability, or their chosen business model, and the second is funding. So, other than having an efficient team, the key to achieving operation of a successful business model are sufficient funds to support its realization.
Director Huang further commented that the startup teams in southern Taiwan are all very creative, and highly perceptive of the market, so they have no problem with planning a successful business model. The key is still funding, because in the process of market operations, companies generally need more funds to come through an adjustment period until their business model truly matches market demands. He hopes that the collaboration made today will offer more opportunities for Kaohsiung Software Park to nurture more successful startup enterprises.
Besides having Director Huang connect venture capital firms and set up connection channels for funding, the event immediately matched up 10 startup steams with venture capital firms to conduct fundraising negotiations. Through closed-door meetings and negotiations, 10 startup teams had the opportunity to directly present the advantages of their companies, attracting the attention of venture capital firms such as Gains Investment Corp, the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs, and Wanin International, increasing support for the development of startup businesses in the park.
