Countries and corporations around the world have been increasingly attaching greater importance to information security. Taiwan has been actively developing under its 5+2 Industrial Innovation Plan, with information security as the basis for a digital economy. To show the government’s determination to promote the industries associated with information security, the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) at Ministry of Economic Affairs organized the Launching Ceremony of IoT Information Security Industry Standards, which heralded Taiwan’s own information security standards, while sharing Taiwan’s experience in promoting IoT information security standards and follow-up strategies. Official representatives from National Security Council, National Development Council, Department of Cyber Security, and Taipei City Government, as well as industry leaders, such as TAICS Chairman Jonathan Tsang, attended this event to show their support.
In addition, because domestic network monitoring cameras currently account for approximately 25 to 30% of global products, the large number of IP cam installations may easily result in breach of personal privacy and loss to financial service applications. As a result, a set of third-party information security standards and certification systems are urgently needed to assist Taiwanese companies to enhance the safety of their products. To serve this purpose, IDB officially announced today the completion of the Information Security Standards and Testing Specifications for IP Cam V1.0. We expect to formulate and promote the accreditation and testing system next year (2018) so as to progressively build up the capability of our information security testing services and lay the foundation for developing information security industry.
In the future, IDB will move to promote the performance assessment criteria and regulations for information security related Taiwanese products internationally, strive to develop information security standards and testing regulations, as well as integrate network devices and smart application fields to connect to the world and explore more business opportunities.
