The 2017 Taiwan-USA Industrial Cooperation Mission, headed by Deputy Director General Cheng-Wei Yu of the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB), Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), led the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Smart Machinery Promotion Office, and the Taiwan-USA Industrial Cooperation Promotion Office (TUSA) MOEA, to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Rockwell Automation Inc., the largest company in Northern American dedicated to industrial automation, in Cleveland, Ohio, on August 31, 2017. The MOU enables the contracted parties to leverage Rockwell Automation's integrated smart manufacturing energy and the advantage of its market share worldwide to accelerate Taiwan industry in upgrading smart machinery and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) related technology, and to expand business opportunities globally.
Deputy Director General Yu pointed out in his remarks at the signing ceremony that smart manufacturing encompasses technologies such as IoT, artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, big data analytics, and next-generation communication. It poises to dramatically change the process of developing, manufacturing, selling, and maintaining products, substantially improving the efficiency in the factories. Taiwan is famous for its strong ICT industry and unparalleled partner of US big name companies such as Google, Microsoft, etc. Taiwan has solid foundation in machinery industry, and the government has categorized the smart machinery industry as one of the targets for industrial innovation. Rockwell Automation is the world's top provider of smart manufacturing solutions; cooperation with Rockwell Automation will boost Taiwan's smart machinery related industries.
Bruce Quinn, vice president of Rockwell Automation, said its 2016 annual revenue was nearly US$5.9 billion. Rockwell Automation has more than 20,000 employees, and has presence in 80 countries around the world. Rockwell Automation solutions include enterprise networking, industrial automation, industrial safety networks, predictive-maintenance and decision-making optimization. Its automated control information platforms, software applications, etc. have also been applied to 16 different industry fields. With Rockwell Automation solutions, enterprises can improve production efficiency, shorten time-to-market, reduce costs, and increase operational flexibility for successful entrance to innovation of smart manufacturing.
Sean Wang, CEO, TUSA, MOEA, pointed out that in the first half of 2017, Taiwan exported total US$14.37 billion of machinery, vehicle, aerospace products, and their key components, modules. Among which US$2.92 billion were shipped to the United States. Through the cooperation with Rockwell Automation, we can leverage its brand awareness to enhance the value of the made-in-Taiwan (MIT) products, increase competitiveness of our products in the US and the global market.
With Rockwell Automation's reputation, cooperation in IIoT, big data, certification and enterprise networking etc. will add value to Taiwan's smart machinery products and increase Taiwan's competiveness in the U.S. and global markets, boosting Taiwan smart machinery into a new paradigm
