According to the statistics of Investment Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, 2,051 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total amount of US$3,982,515,000 were approved from January to July 2019. This indicates an increase of 1.08% in the number of cases, but a decrease of 33.69 % in FDI amount compared with the same period of 2018.
With regard to inward investment from Mainland China, 85 cases were approved with an amount of US$60,431,000 from January to July 2019. This indicates an increase of 6.25% in the number of cases, but a decrease in the FDI amount (59.33%) compared with the same period of 2018. Aggregated from July 2009 to July 2019, 1,313 cases were approved with a total investment amount added up to US$2,248,222,000.
In terms of Taiwan’s outbound investment (except Mainland China), 371 projects were registered from January to July 2019 with a total amount of US$4,095,478,000 indicating an increase of 10.75% in the number of cases but a decrease of 37.91 % in the amount as compared with the same period of 2018.
As for Taiwan’s outward investment to Mainland China, 340 applications have been approved from January to July 2019, indicating a decrease of 12.6 % compared with the same period of 2018. The approved investment amount is US$2,326,068,000, 55.45 % less than the same period in 2018.
