According to the statistics, 1,435 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total amount of US$3,420,996,000 were approved from January to May 2020. This indicates a decrease of 2.78% in the number of cases, and a increase of 11.95% in FDI amount compared to the same period of 2019.
With regard to inward investment from Mainland China, 47 cases were approved with an amount of US$47,420,000 from January to May 2020. This indicates a decrease of 16.07% in the number of cases, and a increase of 68.14% in the FDI amount compared to the same period of 2019. From July 2009 to May 2020, 1,418 cases were approved with a total investment amount added up to US$2,332,391,000.
In terms of Taiwan’s outbound investment (excluding Mainland China), 220 projects were registered from January to May 2020 with a total amount of US$3,252,221,000, indicating an decrease of 14.40% in the number of cases, but a increase of 8.10% in the amount, as compared to the same period of 2019.
As for Taiwan’s outward investment to Mainland China, 214 applications have been approved from January to May 2020, indicating a decrease of 14.06% compared to the same period of 2019. The approved investment amount is US$2,672,949,000, 40.30% more than the same period in 2019.
