The global economy has been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the EU has also proposed a new policy for green recovery based on Green Deal. The government of Taiwan also proposed the Circular Economy Promotion Plan in 2018. The Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) of the MOEA held the Link and Loop: 2020 Circular Supply Chain Matchmaking Meeting on September 9th in partnership with the European Chamber of Commerce's Low Carbon Initiative (ECCT LCI). More than 50 international brand manufacturers and domestic supply chain representatives participated in the event.
At the meeting, Po-keng Yang, Deputy Director of the IIDB, and Freddie HOglund, CEO of the European Chamber of Commerce, both gave opening remarks. Filip Grzegorzewski, Director of the European Economic and Trade Office (EETO) gave a speech about the EU Green Recovery Plan. Po-keng Yang said that in the post-pandemic era, the EU has proposed a Green Recovery Plan based on the EU Green Deal, showing its determination to transform into a green economy. In addition, major international brands have successively proposed circular targets, which are expected to have a major impact on the overall global supply chain. In Taiwan, which is an important player in the global supply chain, manufacturers have accumulated strong capacity in recycling, manufacturing and R&D. This is therefore an opportunity for manufacturers to work closely with international brands.
In the second phase of the meeting, Carrefour, Covestro, Decathlon, IKEA and Unilever served as the moderators of each group, focusing on five major themes: recycling procurement, recycling materials, recycling design, recycling modes and recycling packaging. The IDB also set up government resource project windows for manufacturers to directly consult on the integration and utilization of energy resources, resource recycling green product applications, and various guidance measures for energy saving and carbon reduction.
Facing the trend of sustainable procurement in the international supply chain, the match-making meeting aimed to link local circular manufacturing production and R&D technology with international branding companies. Under the vision of "Linking Innovation and Closing Loops", representatives of all parties shared the direction and practices of the transformation of the circular supply chain, promoted the procurement of recycled materials and technical cooperation, looking to create a new value chain for the international circular economy.
