Taiwan FDI Statistics Summary Analysis (January 2023)

According to the statistics, 161 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total amount of US$291,673,000 were approved in January 2023. This indicates a decrease of 1.83% in the number of cases, and a decrease of 80.23% in FDI amount compared to the same period of 2022.
With regard to inward investment from Mainland China, 4 cases were approved with an amount of US$882,000 in January 2023. This indicates the same in the number of cases, and a decrease of 80.67% in the FDI amount compared to the same period of 2022. From July 2009 to January 2023, 1,560 cases were approved with a total investment amount added up to US$2,567,136,000.
In terms of Taiwan’s outbound investment (excluding Mainland China), 36 projects were registered in January 2023 with a total amount of US$420,342,000, indicating an decrease of 26.53% in the number of cases, but a increase of 1.95% in the amount, as compared to the same period of 2022.
As for Taiwan’s outward investment to Mainland China, 27 applications have been approved in January 2023, indicating a decrease of 35.71% compared to the same period of 2022.
