InvesTaiwan today (22nd) approved additional investments in Taiwan by 2 companies, including ISCOM under the Action Plan for Accelerated Investment by SMEs and Air Asia under the Action Plan for Accelerated Investment by Domestic Corporations. At present, the three major programs for investing in Taiwan have attracted over NT$2.1696 trillion in investments from 1,437 companies, and are expected to create 148,848 domestic employment opportunities, in which the Action Plan for Accelerated Investment by Domestic Corporations has attracted approximately NT$499.1 billion in investments from 177 domestic corporations and created 26,360 domestic employment opportunities; the Action Plan for Accelerated Investment by SMEs has attracted approximately NT$447.9 billion in investments from 958 SMEs and created 35,290 domestic employment opportunities; applications of 9 companies are still pending review.
ISCOM is a domestic information service provider listed in the emerging stock market, and provides cloud application services, smart solutions, and system integration services with its core abilities, including cloud platform, AI, data analysis, and 5G technologies. The company has accumulated over 6,000 customers across manufacturing, retail, service, government agencies, and education institutions. The company developed a smart integrated platform for carbon reduction forecast—isNet0, which is being used by many listed companies, and assists in the integration of greenhouse gas inventory (64 clouds), product carbon footprint cloud (67 clouds), and energy management and monitoring cloud. It complies with ISO standards and helps companies calculate their carbon emission and carbon footprint and monitor energy data. ISCOM will invest several hundred million NTD to build a corporate headquarters in Taichung Gateway and continue developing key technologies. It also plans to recruit 30 domestic software engineers to focus on developing SaaS and PaaS to expand into the international market. The company has recently signed international cooperation agreements with Japan and Malaysia, in hopes of becoming the leading brand of AI services in Taiwan.
Air Asia was established in 1955 and is mainly in the business of repairing military and civilian aircrafts and parts. It is the first company in Taiwan to specialize in aircraft repair, and also the first company in Asia to be certified by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration FAA). Besides repairing Boeing B737 CL/NG/MAX, Airbus A320 CEO/NEO, and Bombardier DASH-8 and ATR 42/72 civilian aircrafts, the company is also a contractor for the repair of government and military fixed-wing aircrafts, rotary wing aircrafts, and parts and also for fleet management. It provides logistics support during combat training, exercises, and disaster relief, and has gained the recognition of customers. Air Asia plans to purchase testing equipment for F-16 in its Taichung Plant, expand the maintenance hanger of its Tainan Plant, establish a fiber-optic gyroscope (FOG) production line, and build a story hall and training center in its administration building, in order to support the policy of self-reliant national defense and respond to the demand on commercial aircraft repair driven by the recovery of the aviation industry. Furthermore, the company will utilize augmented reality, sensor equipment, and cloud system technologies to improve the accuracy and efficiency of repair, predict maintenance needs, and monitor quality. The investment is expected to increase the company’s repair capacity and create 174 employment opportunities. The story hall of Air Asia serves as a tourism factory and training center. Together with the nearby Chimei Museum and Happiness Factory, it can attract tourists, and will also provide training and certification guidance to civil aviation repair personnel, in hopes of developing into a training center for aircraft repair talent in Southern Taiwan. In coordination with the government policy of net zero emissions by 2050, the maintenance hanger will have a solar power system to effectively conserve energy and reduce carbon emissions. Air Asia hopes to showcase its capabilities in the highly competitive MRO market and also help Taiwan increase its national defense self-reliance through this investment.
