At the Cabinet's weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Cho Jung-tai received a Ministry of Economic Affairs briefing on a plan to promote precision and smart technologies as new core industries in central Taiwan. The premier said this initiative supports President Lai Ching-te's policy vision of balanced development across Taiwan. By incorporating regional governance concepts into industrial development and public infrastructure, the plan paves the way for new approaches to managing the cultivation of industries and living spaces across six key regions spanning the entire country.
Premier Cho noted that the plan is based on three main strategies: the digital and low-carbon transformation of core industries, the reinvention of existing core industry hubs into new centers of development, and the utilization of legal entity resources to drive industrial innovation. It aims to further enhance the competitive advantages of industries including precision machinery, semiconductors and optical communications, while improving the basic amenities needed to support industrial development. In doing so, the plan seeks to draw local and international talent, and transform the central Taiwan region—comprising Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin and Nantou—into a leading global hub for precision and smart technologies.
