Administrative Deputy Minister Wang Mei-Hua of the Ministry of Economic Affairs was invited to the opening ceremony of Tokuyama Corporation’s new factory in Yunlin today (15th). Tokuyama Corporation is Japan’s leading manufacturer of semiconductor chemical materials with operations in the U.S., Europe, Japan, and South Korea. In 1996, it established its the first factory in Taiwan in Hsinchu, and supplied high purity chemicals, such as IPA and TMAH, to TSMC, UMC, and Winbond Electronics Corporation. After 22 years of operations in Taiwan and seeing the excellent environment for the technology industry to develop, it invested an additional NT$600 million to build a second factory in Yunlin Technology-based Industrial Park, expanding its presence in Taiwan.
During her speech, Administrative Deputy Minister Wang stated that Taiwan is famous for its semiconductor industry, which is a global leader in terms of technical capabilities, product development, and production applications. Taiwan has large scale foundries and packaging bases, is the world’s largest consumer of semiconductor materials, and is also a top three market for semiconductor equipment. Tokuyama Corporation expanding its presence in Taiwan not only shows that it is optimistic about the development of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry, but also shows that multinational corporations approve of Taiwan’s investment environment. Administrative Deputy Minister Wang also stated that the construction of the company’s new factory in Yunlin was completed in less than a year and a half, and shows the efficiency of central and local governments in providing investment services.
President Hiroshi Yokota of Tokuyama Corporation expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Yunlin County Government for their support and assistance in accelerating the administrative process for the construction of the company’s new factory in Yunlin, allowing Tokuyama Corporation to successfully gain a presence in Yunlin Technology-based Industrial Park. President Hiroshi Yokota indicated that the market generally expects the semiconductor market to flourish once again following the development and popularization of 5G communications. Tokuyama Corporation’s new Yunlin Factory was planned to completely meet the demand on new generation processes, and also supports the development of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry. The next step is to carry out the planning of the phase two factory area in Yunlin and continue to expand the company’s operations in Taiwan.
Administrative Deputy Minister Wang said that the Ministry of Economic Affairs combined the InvesTaiwan Service Center, Department of Investment Services, and Investment Commission into “InvesTaiwan”, which provides one-stop services for business invitation and investment review. The customized services help companies realize their investment plans in Taiwan. Companies that require investment services in Taiwan are welcome to contact the Ministry of Economic Affairs at any time.
Taiwan has a complete industrial cluster, solid manufacturing capabilities, and excellent human resources, and its overall investment environment has thus been recognized in numerous international ratings. The Ministry of Economic Affairs will continue to look into investment opportunities and gaps in the industrial chain, and utilize Taiwan’s local demand and superior conditions to attract multinational corporations with key technologies to make investments or expand their operations in Taiwan, jointly expanding business opportunities for new generation industries.
