Taipei City is located in the northern part of Taiwan, and is the political, economic, and cultural development center of the island. It has 12 administrative districts and, together with the neighboring New Taipei City and Keelung City, makes up the Greater Taipei Metropolitan Area. The total population of this area is over 7 million. Since Taipei has quite comprehensive infrastructure, a well-developed traffic network, and located in the heart of the Asia-Pacific region (3 hours flight to cities such as Shanghai, Seoul, and Tokyo), it is an important linkage to local markets of Japan, Korea, and the rising Asia-Pacific areas.

Neihu Technology Park and Nangang Software Park offer excellent infrastructure, functional advantages, and strong government support, attracting internationally renowned ICT companies to invest and establish operations. With a cluster of more than 5,500 companies, total revenue reaching NT$5.94 trillion, and a workforce of over 202,100 employees, these areas have become Taipei City’s most important technology R&D cluster and innovation engine.
Taipei City is a major hub for biotechnology and medical research in Taiwan. The city accounts for over 70% of the national biotechnology industry’s total revenue and more than 42% of its workforce. With Academia Sinica, multiple medical centers, and biotechnology-related academic departments, Taipei possesses abundant scientific research talent and has attracted hundreds of biotechnology companies to establish a presence.
Taipei City is home to numerous commercial districts and night markets, with diverse business models and vibrant commercial activities. The city has 65 high-density commercial areas, 51 shopping districts, and 17 night markets. Consumer services and the food and beverage industry continue to grow steadily.
According to the MEET TAIWAN survey, Taiwan’s MICE industry reached NT$51.7 billion in 2025. Exhibitions held in Taipei City accounted for 54.99% of the national total. Taipei offers the most comprehensive MICE hardware and software infrastructure in Taiwan, including 18 five-star hotels with meeting and exhibition spaces, Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1, Taipei Expo Park Expo Dome, Taipei International Convention Center, and Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center. The city’s exhibition space totals 113,000 square meters. With the future opening of the Nangang International Convention Center and the National Convention and Exhibition Center, Taipei will be able to provide even more abundant MICE capacity.
Taiwan has a sound and well-developed financial system. Approximately 80% of the nation’s financial institution headquarters and over 90% of venture capital companies are located in Taipei City, with a financial services workforce exceeding 100,000 people.

The 4+1 industrial park plan taken as the future industrial strategy, includes Nangang biotech cluster, Neihu Technology Park Version 2.0, Beitou Shilin Technology Park, Shezidao Eco-project and Innovation park of Yuanshan Expo venue.
