Publication Date:3/23/21Yilan County is located in Taiwan's northeast corner. It borders the Pacific Ocean to the east and the Central Mountain Range to the north. Within these two natural borders lies the Yilan Plain. Yilan County is located south of New Taipei City, east of Taoyuan City and Hsinchu County, and north of Taichung City and Hualien County. Yilan County covers an area of 2,144 km2 and has one city and 11 townships. The Yilan County Government is headquartered in Yilan City, and the city is about an hour's drive from Taipei City.
As of the end of 2016, a total of 29,487 companies and businesses are registered in Yilan County with an accumulated capital of nearly NTD$47.4 billion. Businesses are mainly from the tertiary industries.
As of the end of 2016, Yilan County's total population was 458,117 and the population density was 214 people per square kilometer. Among the different regions, Luodong Township has the highest density, at 6,382 people per square kilometer. Nan'ao Township has the lowest population density, at eight people per square kilometer.
The number of people employed in Yilan County as of the end of 2016 was 203,000, representing an unemployment rate of 3.9%. This was slighly lower than Taiwan’s overall unemployment rate of 4%.
The Biomedical Industry Designated Zone is 13 hectares in size, and is working with the National Yang-Ming University Hospital to develop peripheral support industries for biomedical science. The land zoning project was completed in 2013.
The park is 70.63 hectares in size and was completed in 2013. In 2015, standard factories were built to attract the telecommunications, digital creativity, and R&D industries.
Longde Industrial Park was developed in 1978 and has 178.45 hectares land dedicated to production. Su'ao Port is located 4.5 km east of Longde Industrial Park. Provincial Highway 2 is the main road in and out of the park.
Lize Industrial Park first started development in 1987. It is located on the border of Wujie Township and Su'ao Township in Yilan. The park has a total land size of 189.94 hectares for industrial use.
The zone is 71.5 hectares in size. Piers 12 and 13 are in the process of being converted to designated tourism and transfer zones. Currently, the Sunan Transfer Station has been constructed to link local industries and bring in tourists.
The four north-south roads include Provincial Highway 2, Freeway 5, Provincial Highway 9, and Provincial Highway 2G. The six east-west roads consist of Yilan County Highway 6, Yilan A access road, Yilan B access road, Erjie access road, Luodong access road, and Dongshan access road. These roads form a convenient transportation network.
Currently, Yilan Transfer Station, Luodong Transfer Station, and Jiaoxi Transfer Station have been completed. Toucheng Transfer Station and Sunan Transfer Station are in the planning stages.
Yilan County has 11 freeway bus routes, 19 city bus routes, 2 Taiwan Tourist Shuttle service routes, 13 rural bus routes, and 29 intercity bus transport routes that provide convenient transportation services.
